4 Rhode Island Red Roosters Rehomed

We were getting so desperate on how to reduce the number of roosters lately.  We looked at another slaughterhouse but it is an hour away and they only do the kill on Wednesday which does not work with our schedule.  I’ve put up an ad on Kijiji but it’s been a few days and no interest whatsoever.  My husband offered it to our neighbour free but he said he cannot kill either.  So we were at a stalemate at that point and I was fretting.

My husband’s last resort was to call the farm where we bought the chickens that supposed to be hens last October and get a replacement or refund but he said he didn’t have any hens and he couldn’t afford to refund us.  That of course got me more upset.  So I was fretting some more.  So my husband called him back and said “I can’t really kill chickens and my wife is really upset so can you please give us at least $5 for each rooster?" (We have a total of 4 roosters we want refund).  And that’s when he made the offer to give us frozen chicken meat in exchange because he really didn’t have any money.  And that was a win-win situation for us!  It was going to cost us $3.99 per bird to have it butchered at a slaughterhouse which won’t open until spring.

Now we're down to 16 roosters and 28 hens.  Ratio is still really bad but at least that’s a slight  relief for the hens.  Those 4 were the violent useless roosters.  Useless males.  We still have a lot of roosters (about 10) to process but they can wait until spring because they are not very vicious as those 4.

Here's the pictures of the frozen chicken.
